online life

In one of my other media classes we are on the topic of online gaming. This made me think about one of the true life episodes that I saw for when you are living two worlds and one is based online where you are more open with people and the other real life when you are shy. I don’t know about most people but from my recent studies I have found that people online are really more open to things because they are hiding behind a screen. This episode really was weird to me I don’t get why people need to hide behind a screen. There wasting there time they need to get out and explore I believe that we only really do live once and we need to live up to our life. They can hide behind the screen all they want but it might not benefit them in any other way. I am wondering everyone else’s thoughts on this double world life behind the computer screen?

  1. I think folks take on a range of personae all the time--for instance, I'm a prof, but also a husband, a son, a co-worker, an old college roommate, a guy ordering a beer at the bar, etc.... There are different kinds of codes (verbal & non-verbal) that we use in these different roles that might not be effective or even appropriate elsewhere....

There's always a bit of a moral panic swirling around new technologies & popular culture.... but I tend to think the kids are alright.
